The Church of St John the Baptist Dronfield has been at the centre of our community since the 12th Century.
The people of St John’s are committed to care for this ancient building on behalf of all local people to ensure that it remains open daily to serve many generations in the future.
This spiritual life within our community has been present for over 870 years since the time of Oscot, the first Rector, and St John’s Parish Church building bears silent witness to all of human experience In order to ensure that the building remains fit for purpose throughout this Century and into the next, we have carried out urgent work on the spire, high level external stonework and to the inside of the nave roof. In Phase 1 of St John’s Building Plan, nearly £180,000 has been raised and spent to safeguard the integrity of the building as above, for the future.
But there is more to tell... This will make the church building a more appropriate and versatile venue, available for local meetings, concerts, drama, recitals, worship and other community events. Additional funds will be required for this work. Some Facts St John’s Church is funded only by the contributions of members of the congregation and those who use the church for occasional events such as weddings and funerals. St John’s Church welcomes everyone who would like to join with us. We exclude no one and are inclusive in our work, our employment and the use of our buildings. St John’s Church knows that children are the future. We provide a welcoming, safe and exciting programme of activities for children and young people.
